      Grammar can be intimidating. I’ve been saying for years that this is a bad thing. Fear isn’t conducive to learning. And it can keep you from ever realizing that grammar is a lot easier, more intuitive and more useful than most people know.

      IT’S THAT TIME of year when a good bowl of chili or a warm loaf of bread fresh out of the oven just makes the day. Mrs. Edgar Rachal was up at 5 a.m. Monday baking bread and Edgar was out delivering the treat. The loaf was still warm when it arrived at the News Herald office, but it seemed to get even better as the day waned.

Coterie Club introduce 2009-10 officers
      The Coterie Club of Kilgore met on October 8 at 11 a.m. at GZ Asian Bristro in Longview. Hostesses for the luncheon were Barbara Kiser, Carolyn Martin, Kathye Miller and Martha Whitehead. Members were seated at tables beautifully decorated with pumpkins filled with an array of fall foliage. These arrangements were later given as door prizes.
