Pirtle’s holiday show helps Helping Hands

By REV. DUDLEY PLAISANCE For the News Herald

Look around. Times are a little tougher for folks.

A number of local families have been able to count on assistance from Helping Hands of Kilgore. Now Helping Hands needs a helping hand.

Helping Hands was established by the Kilgore Ministerial Alliance several years ago to lend a hand to local residents who found themselves in a temporary bad way. The resources of the organization have been stretched to the max. Nearly double the regular numbers of people are applying for assistance.

With the busy holiday season ahead, Helping Hands is running short of food and funds.

On Oct. 16 and 17, the ’09 Holiday Trade Days sponsored by Pirtle United Methodist Church will collect food and funds for Helping Hands.

A special booth will be set up to receive donations for Helping Hands, and someone will be available to answer any questions.

The ’09 Holiday Trade Days is at Pirtle United Methodist Church, south of Kilgore, just off Highway 259, at the intersection.
