THE WHITE ELEPHANT resale shop at the train depot on Commerce Street is open from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. every Tuesday. Proceeds benefit the Kilgore Improvement & Beautification Association. Donations welcomed..

KHS WAR YEARS REUNION GROUP will meet at 1 p.m. Oct. 13 at New China Buffet, 1009 Kilgore Plaza, for their monthly lunch meeting.

EAST TEXAS CHILD ADVOCATES will host an open house 4:30-6:30 p.m. Oct. 13 at its new location at 208 N. Green St., Suite 404 (Weaver Building) in Longview and introduce Linda Streeter, the new executive director. Public welcome.

WEDNESDAY

CIVIC GARDEN CLUB will make a pilgrimage to the Tyler Rose Garden Oct.14. Members will meet at 9 a.m. at the back parking lot of First Baptist Church to carpool. A visit to the Master Gardeners’ Idea Garden will be a new feature to enjoy there, as well.

JOHN TILLEY EDWARDS chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas will host a joint meeting with the Tyler DRT on Oct. 21. At 9 a.m. members will meet at the home of Sylvia Kennedy in the Scottsville area for muffins and coffee. A tour of the Scottsville Cemetery will begin at 10, followed by a tour of the Jonesville General Store. Lunch will be at Roseville Bed and Breakfast. UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS AT TYLER will celebrate “Totally Awesome ‘80s Homecoming” Oct. 12-17. Events include a movie marathon, Idol singing competition, distinguished alumni luncheon and more. For a complete list of activities visit www.uttyler.edu.

THURSDAY IN THE PATCH will feature The Jazz Professors in concert at the World’s Richest Acre downtown Oct. 15. Sponsored by the Kilgore Historical Preservation Foundation, the concert is free and begins at 6:30 p.m. Bring your lawn chairs and enjoy.

YOUNG AT HEART of First Baptist Church, Kilgore, will meet for their regular luncheon 11:45 a.m. Oct. 15 in the FBC Fellowship Hall. Special guest will be CEO Sherry Bustin, CEO, who will discuss services Allegiance Specialty Hospital offers. Attendees will also have an opportunity to sign up for an all-day surprise trip on Oct. 19. Everyone is invited to bring a covered dish and join Young At Heart.

EAST TEXAS GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY will meet 2 p.m. Oct. 10 at Tyler Public Library, 201 S. College. Linda L. Reynolds, director of the E.T. Research Center at SFASU, will describe the extensive holdings of the center, including collections of manuscripts, photos, books, newspapers, oral history, maps, and other archival materials that emphasize eastern Texas life, culture, economy, and its history. 1st CHURCH OF THE NAZARENE will celebrate its 75th anniversary with a special service 10 a.m. Oct. 11. Guest speaker will be Dr. James Diehl, with music by Marcus Whitworth.
