      The Evergreen Garden Club held its flower show on Thursday at the home of Barbara and Bob Johnson, hosts for the event. The Home Placement Show this year was “Evergreen for Ever Green,” according to Nita Beale, co-chairman for the event.

     Kilgore Saddle Club members held their first fall event this weekend at Jack Evans Memorial Arena. Contestants of all ages, from 6 years and younger to 40-plus years, competed in poles, straight-a-way barrels and clover leaf barrels.

Xi Pi Mu celebrates new club year with dinner
      Xi Pi Mu sorority members held their first meeting of the year on the evening of Sept. 8 at the home of Peggy Bowne. Members were treated to a delicious dinner provided by Ms. Bowne, Diana Coston and L’sha Stanley. Chicken Tetrazzini was served along with a layered garden salad, French bread and tea. Dessert of bread pudding with butter sauce was provided by Bill Stanley.

Joint lunch for New England Colony Chapter Colonial Dames
      The New England Colony Chapter Colonial Dames of the XVII Century met Sept. 19 at the Community Center in Longview. Members of the chapter were invited by members of the Aaron Burleson Chapter DAR and the Captain William Young Chapter DAR of Longview and the Cherokee Trace Chapter DAR of Gladewater for a joint meeting, luncheon and program celebrating Constitution Week.
