Evergreen adds to design expertise
Sandee Waters presented a design workshop for members of the Evergreen Garden Club in preparation for their Specialized Standard Placement Show on Oct. 1.
Evelyn Bolding hosted Evergreen Garden Clubbers at Danville Farms on Sept. 17 for a design workshop in preparation for Evergreen’s upcoming Specialized Standard Placement Show.
Sandee Walters, Texas Garden Club District III Trustee and a design and environmental consultant, led a lively design workshop. Ms. Walters’ focus was traditional floral designs and she provided handouts that illustrated acceptable design shapes for flower shows.
The three designs for which she gave detailed information were a small dried arrangement in fall tones, an L-shaped arrangement of beautiful red roses, and a small arrangement of mums and eucalyptus that showed the possibilities for underwater designs. Ms. Walters, who has worked with Evergreen for several years and who served as judge for Evergreen’s 2008 flower show, welcomed questions throughout and provided specific help for members, even tearing down one design and creating an entirely different, creative, design using the same flowers.
All this design work is in preparation for Evergreen Garden Club’s upcoming rose show on Thursday, Oct. 1, at the Johnson home, 505 Hill Terrace in Kilgore. An afternoon showing (3-5 p.m.) is provided free and open to the public so that members can share the results of their work and their accomplishments, and complimentary valet parking will be available.
President Nita Beale conducted a short business meeting, during which members accepted Nancy Wilson as a new club member.
Gladys Crouch, Dot Watson and Bobbie Wylie provided refreshments.
Following the workshop, Evergreen members trekked to the home of Barbara and Bob Johnson to view their flower show placements.
Attending were Nadine Adamson, Mary Aikman, Evelyn Banda, Nita Beale, Sally Beane, Evelyn Bolding, Pat Boyd, Kay Castles, Gladys Crouch, Janie Edmonds, Virginia Finklea, Barbara Johnson, Dianna Jones, Jean Laird, Kay Liston, Margaret Martin, Billie Oliphint, Helen Padgett, Sharon Ragle, Lawana Sistrunk, Virginia Wallace, Dorothy Watson, Bobbie Wylie and Cherisa York.
