In celebration of Kilgore College’s 75th anniversary, this week is chock-full of homecoming activities next week including an ice cream eating contest, pep rally, tailgate party, powder puff football game and a luncheon to honor the ex-teacher, ex-student and honored retirees of the year – just to name a few.
The week will conclude with a 7 p.m. football contest versus Arkansas Baptist College at R.E. St. John Memorial Stadium in Kilgore on Saturday, Oct. 3. The Homecoming Queen and King will be announced pre-game.
The week kicks off Monday with a spirit rally, tailgate party and ice cream eating contest at 6 p.m. in the Devall Student Center parking lot.
On Tuesday, students can participate in Game Night in the game room of the Devall Student Center. A powder puff football game is also set for 6 p.m. at R.E. St. John Memorial Stadium.
Thursday will feature a homecoming pep rally in Masters Gymnasium at noon. A free lunch for KC students and employees will immediately follow the pep rally in the school’s courtyard.
A Homecoming Court Banquet will take place 6:30 p.m. Thursday on the second floor of the McLaurin Administration Building on the Kilgore campus.
On Saturday the Rangerettes Forever organization will hold its annual homecoming brunch at 11 a.m. in the Devall Ballroom, and current and former KC Twirlers and cheerleaders will perform demonstrations at 11 a.m. in Masters Gymnasium.
At noon on Saturday, alumni groups “Once…Always KC Twirlers,” “Ever and Always KC Rahs” (cheerleader alumni group) and the “Eternal Flares” will meet. The Eternal Flares is an alumni group that is comprised of former students who worked on the KC student newspaper, The Flare.
The Ranger Band Alumni Association will also host an alumni lunch 1 p.m. Saturday in the KC Band Hall. Band and twirler alumni will perform pre-game with the Ranger Band at the football game that night. They will also be honoring former directors Wally Read and Jerry Hale.
At 4 p.m. Saturday, the KC Ex-Student Association Dinner will be held in the Devall Student Center Ballroom to recognize Ex-Student of the Year Dana Blair, Ex-Teacher of the Year Jerry Hale and Honored Retiree Award recipients Glen and Louise Raby.
Blair attended KC from 1981-83, where she was a Rangerette. She returned to KC in 1986 as assistant director and choreographer of the Rangerettes. She is currently the director of the Rangerettes, a position she has held since 1993.
Hale attended KC from 1961-63. He returned to KC and taught music at the college for 34 years until his retirement in 2000. He was head band director from 1983 until 2000.
The Rabys met while attending KC in 1957, and were married in 1959. Louise began working at KC in 1959 and worked in the college’s library for 40 years. Glen began working in the KC Bookstore while a student and remained at the college for nearly 40 years serving positions of bookstore manager and instructor in the Technical Vocational Department.
The dinner is free of charge, open to the public and is sponsored by the Hershell Curtis Lineman Award.
