Evelyn Susie Gunn Price
Funeral services for Evelyn Susie Gunn Price, 96, of Kilgore, will be held at 12 noon Tuesday, September 22, 2009, in the Chapel of Rader Funeral of Longview with Pastor Harry LaGrone officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Park Cemetery. She passed away Saturday, September 19, 2009, in a Longview hospital.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Price was born November 6, 1912, to John and Susie O’Rear Gunn in Oilfield Town, La., near Vivian, La., and was 1 of 12 children. She graduated from Ida High School, Ida, La., in 1932 as valedictorian of her class. At the age of 45, she decided to further her education and received a bachelor’s degree from Stephen F. Austin State University, and then received a master’s degree from East Texas State University in Commerce, Texas. She taught school and was librarian in numerous cities in Texas. For 60 years, she was a member of Eastview Baptist Church in Kilgore, Texas, where she taught Sunday School. Also, she was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Kilgore.
She was preceded in death by her parents and 11 siblings; husband, Sanders Price, Sr.; son, Sanders “Sandy” Price, Jr.; granddaughter, Sheena Price; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Jane Holbrook Jordan of Lindale, Texas, and Carolyn Baldree, PhD. and husband Don of Carterville, Ga.; daughter-in-law and caregiver, Jane Morris Price of Kilgore; six grandsons, Ben Mayfield, Gary Price, Scotty Price, Jason Edwards, David Kay and Chris Baldree, who will serve as pallbearers along with grandson-in-law, Matt Bryan; one granddaughter, Kim Holbrook Bryan; 11 great grandchildren; 1 great-great-granddaughter and numerous nieces and nephews.
