Lions learn the ups and downs of KHS volleyball
      Everything you wanted to know about Kilgore High School volleyball was on the agenda at the Kilgore Lions Club on Thursday. Lacy Thompson, head volleyball coach at KHS, said the team is adjusting, with only two players returning from last year's playoff team.

      Kilgore police officers worked 31 calls and made one arrest on Tuesday. Calls included: one motor vehicle accident with nor reported injuries; one attempted suicide; one regarding damaged property; one suspicious activity; one theft; one disturbance; one suspicious vehicle; and 10 for animal control.

Improvements to be made on two city parks
      Councilmen discussed deadlines for improvements to two city parks and agreed to go forward with plans for a third during a parks workshop Tuesday night after the regular council meeting. The council agreed Martin Luther King Jr.

Council accepts bid for Crescent Drive drainage improvements
      City councilmen Tuesday night accepted the low bid for its "Crescent Drive Drainage Improvements" project that is about $70,000 less than officials predicted when the project began. Crown Civil Construction in Tyler submitted a bid for $219,997, the lowest of the seven bids the city received. The high bid was $270,268.37.

New therapist joins ETTC staff
      East Texas Treatment Center has added a new occupational therapist to its staff. Tonya DeKoker has begun work as a certified hand therapist, which further strengthens the center's ability to provide the finest therapy services to its patients, local employers and community, according to Bobby Hale, ETTC executive director.

Gregg County Clerk Wade named to Sabine River board
      AUSTIN - Gov. Rick Perry has appointed three members to the Sabine River Authority Board of Directors for terms to expire July 6, 2015. The nine-member board makes recommendations on conservation, quality and utilization of water in the Sabine River and its tributaries.

Kilgore man causes two accidents
      A Kilgore man involved in a two-vehicle accident Saturday night fled the scene but was found shortly thereafter because he had a second accident and had to be air-lifted to a Tyler hospital. Ernest Michael Gillispie, 37, was reportedly westbound on FM 2204 when he failed to stop at the intersection of FM 2276 and struck a vehicle from behind.

Inmates start trash can fire at jail
      Inmates at Gregg County's South Jail facility are believed to have started a trash can fire that caused injury to one jail deputy. According to a news release from the Sheriff Maxey Cerliano's office on Friday afternoon, a jail staff member reported smoke and fire on the sixth floor of the jail at 12:39 p.m. Sept. 11.
