Friends of Library book sale Friends of the Kilgore Public Library will host a used book sale on the front lawn of the library this month to raise money for the group's outreach projects. The sale is set for 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Sept. 18-19. Jacqueline Carter, Friends treasurer, said the nonprofit group uses the proceeds to fund such outreach projects as the children's summer reading program, renting U.S. flags from the Rotary Club, and helping the East Texas Literacy Council. Friends run the used book "store" located in the basement of the library, but the stairs to room are difficult for some people to maneuver, so members decided to bring the sale outside to accommodate everyone. Hardback books and videos are $1 each, paperbacks are 50 cents, magazines are 10 cents each, and encyclopedia sets are $5 each. Carter said several hundred books will be available and book donations are accepted at the library's front desk. "We have quite a collection of old books and new books, and lately we've been getting donations of large-print books," Carter said.
