Kilgore Night Out looks forward to new night in October
      Neighbors are asked to come out into the streets to show their commitment against crime and drugs during Kilgore Night Out, set for Tuesday, Oct. 6. Barbara Garrett, administrative assistant at the Chamber of Commerce, said Tuesday she has mailed letters to those who organized parties last year and anyone who wants to organize new parties is more than welcome to do so.

Governor appoints three to Sabine River Authority Board of Directors Gregg Co. Clerk named to Sabine River Authority
     Gov. Rick Perry has appointed three members to the Sabine River Authority Board of Directors for terms to expire July 6, 2015. The nine-member board makes recommendations on conservation, quality and utilization of water in the Sabine River and its tributaries.

Ana-Lab employee returns from combat duty in Iraq
      Ana-Lab Corp. officials say they are proud to have one of their own back from Iraq and back to work. Dr. Charles Whiteside, owner of Ana-Lab, said Paul Baumgardner is the only employee who has been called to active duty by the military.

KILGORE FFA WINS AT JACKPOT
     KHS FFA students Ryan Edmonds, Brian Hearne and Taylor Kulack participated in the Gilmer FFA Labor Day Pig & Goat Blowout on Saturday. Ryan, left, received fourth place; Brian, center, won first in his class; and Taylor earned fifth in his class. Sarah Davis, high school agriculture teacher, said she is pleased with her students' success and looks forward to a good year for FFA at KHS.

      With the announcement that the Kilgore Fall Film Festival will start next week, 4 Star Cinema's owner says this year's lineup is one of the stronger series he has been able to negotiate with film distributors.

Livestock theft prevention gathering
      The Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association will host a gathering near Kilgore to discuss how to prevent livestock theft. The meeting, which includes a free barbecue dinner, is set to begin at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22, at the Griffin Ranch.

Texas Forest Trail Region to host Haunted Heritage Tourism workshop
      The Texas Forest Trail Region, in partnership with the Kilgore Chamber of Commerce, will host a heritage tourism workshop titled "Haunted Heritage Spooktacular: A Cemetery Preservation Workshop" on Oct. 29. The workshop will be held at the Kilgore Public Library, followed by special visits to the Kilgore Rangerette Showcase Museum and East Texas Oil Museum.

Friends of Library book sale
      Friends of the Kilgore Public Library will host a used book sale on the front lawn of the library this month to raise money for the group's outreach projects. The sale is set for 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Sept. 18-19.

      Police worked 75 calls and made 10 arrests between 12:01 a.m. Friday and midnight Sunday. Friday's calls included: three building burglaries, one each in the 3200 block of Hwy.
