SABINE VOLLEYBALL OFF TO DISNEYWORLD
2009-09-02 / Sports
The Sabine High School varsity volleyball team (pictured) is about to defend East Texas' honor in Florida. The Lady Cardinals depart Wednesday morning for Orlando to compete in the annual KSA Tournament, one that boasts teams from across the nation. Sabine plays in pool play the first two days (Thursday and Friday), and opens with Huntsville (AL) on Thursday morning at 10. They'll play three more matches that day against schools from Mississippi and Texas (El Paso). On Friday, it's three more games, and more on Saturday. "One of the goals in going to Florida is to not only get some good competition," Sabine coach Rickey Hammontree said, "but hopefully bring our kids together before they start district play." Sabine is currently 7-4 on the season and was to host Troup Tuesday night. Pictured (front row, from left): Cassie Headley, Jillian Calvin, Lindsey Bryce, Mallory Ford and Kalyn Gains. Back (from left): Janell Defreece, Kendra Whitehead, Carra Smitherman, and Brittany Stuart. Good luck, Lady Cardinals!
