Volleyballers lose to Marshall By MITCH LUCAS sports@kilgorenewsherald.com The long road stint to open the season is finally over, but it ended with another loss for the Kilgore High School varsity volleyball team. Kilgore visited Marshall on Tuesday night, a former district rival, but
returned home with a 12-25, 16-25, 16-25 defeat. Coach Lacy Thompson’s Lady
Bulldogs, which made the playoffs last season, have struggled so far this
year, but have yet to play a home date. That will change on Friday, when the Lady ‘Dogs are set to host Chapel Hill.
The varsity will play at 4:30 p.m. in the regular KHS gymnasium, and
freshmen will play at the same time in the old gym. The junior varsity will
play after the varsity. Tuesday night at Marshall, Kelsey Jackson had six kills. Brianna Westbrook
and Lesta Eaton each had two. LaQuasha Sheffield had two kills and three
blocks. Eaton had seven assists, Becca Howard six, and Kandace Shackelford
had two blocks. Kilgore’s freshmen team, coached by Cassie Newell, did win, beating Marshall
25-15, 25-18. The JV won its first game, 25-16, but lost the next two,
19-25, 22-25. After Friday, Kilgore is also home on Tuesday and Friday of next week, hosting Pine Tree Tuesday night and Leverett’s Chapel on Friday. Kilgore will begin District 14-4A play on Sept. 25 at home against Jacksonville.
