Kilgore solid in scrimmage against MP
Bulldogs open '09 Friday in Carthage
      If the Kilgore High School football team isn't ready for the season to start, it certainly didn't appear that way Friday night in their only preseason scrimmage. Kilgore scored three touchdowns to Mount Pleasant's two in the timed half portion of the scrimmage, played here at R.E. St. John Stadium.

Softball game raises over $5,000 for injured officer
      "Guns vs. Hoses, Part Two" turned out to be quite a success. About 350 people were in attendance Saturday night at Driller Park to witness a softball rematch between the Kilgore police and fire departments, but they witnessed more than that: they saw an outpouring of caring from the Kilgore community for one if its own.

GOLF BRINGS BIG BUCKS FOR TREATMENT CENTER
     The East Texas Treatment Center benefitted greatly from this year's golf tournament fundraiser, collecting $25,000 from the event. Pictured: Bobby Hale (left), ETTC Executive Director, accepts a check from Steve Martin, the president of the East Texas Oilman's Golf Association, which has played that tournament for 47 years, and donated the proceeds from each of the last few years to the treatment center, located here in Kilgore on Dudley Road.

      GOLF No afternoon tee times left for Chamber golf tourney The 17th annual Kilgore Chamber of Commerce golf tournament, a six-person scramble format, will be held here at Meadowbrook Country Club on Tuesday, Sept. 15. There will be shotgun starts that day at 8 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., and there is an entry fee of $75 per person.

'Dogs win two on road
HIGH SCHOOL TENNIS
      The fall season is going quite well, now, for the Kilgore High School tennis team, which did some traveling on Saturday, but came home with wins over Rockwall and Wills Point. At press time Tuesday afternoon, the Bulldogs were getting ready to host their first matchup of the year, with Center coming to KHS. See coverage of Kilgore-Center in Saturday's News Herald.
