United Fund off to good start
      Two weeks before the official kick-off of the 2009-10 United Fund drive, donors have already pledged almost $10,000. Carol Hinton, executive secretary of United Fund of Kilgore board of directors, said Monday that she has received payments and pledges totaling $9,876 — 16 percent of the UF's $60,000 goal for the coming year.

Soldier with Kilgore roots retires from Air Force
      HURLBURT FIELD, Fla. — Chief Master Sergeant Ralph O. Dent has retired as the Chief of Airborne Communications, Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC) at Hurlburt Field. Dent was born a "military brat" in Stuttgart, Germany. At age three his family moved to Atlanta, Ga.

Kilgore man pleads guilty to possessing child pornography
      TYLER — A 31-year-old Kilgore man has pleaded guilty to federal child pornography violations in the Eastern District of Texas on Tuesday. Darin Williamson pleaded guilty to an Information charging him with possession of child pornography today before U.S. Magistrate Judge John D. Love.

LOCKS OF LOVE
     Brialyn Millwood, 9, ut her beautiful hair and donated it to Locks of Love. Misty Waits at Blonde Salon was in charge of the haircut on Tuesday. Brialyn's donated ponytail was 10 inches long. The youngster said she was "very excited" to share her hair with "kids that need hair because they're sick."

Rusk County man convicted of sexual assault of a child
      HENDERSON — A 19-year-old Rusk County man pleaded guilty to the aggravated sexual assault of a child and was sentenced to five years in the Texas Department of Corrections on Tuesday.

HOLDER, DIXON GRADUATE BASIC TRAINING
      Air Force Airman Robert Holder of Kilgore graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio. The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.
