Texan approved for music and dance venue The city council unanimously approved a lease agreement for the Texan Theater to become a privately operated entertainment venue for music and dances. The new tenants, Jerry Brown and son Justin Brown, were not in attendance at Tuesday night's council meeting. Per the lease agreement, the Browns will get the first six months rent-free, and then pay $400 per month. In exchange, they have told city officials they will encapsulate the asbestos insulation, build a new stage and make other repairs. Haven't seen their actual architectural plans yet, but the council has asked to see the plans prior to changes. They will be responsible for all expenses inside the building, including utilities, any repairs to bring the electrical and plumbing up to code, maintenance and repair of the heat and air conditioning equipment and roof repairs, though the roof was replaced about a month ago. However, the Browns will not be allowed to make any structural changes inside without prior approval from the city council.
