Allied Waste now offering a day for recycling, free
      If you have more recyclables than you know what to do with, Olympic Waste has a solution. Gene Keenon, manager of government affairs at Allied Waste, said anyone can bring their recyclables for free to the Pine Hill Landfill every Thursday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

DUMC food drive success
      A food drive was held at Danville United Methodist Church on Saturday for Helping Hands of Kilgore — a very sweet food drive, as the church held an ice cream social and nonperishable foods were the admission price.

Regions Bank open house Friday
      Regions Bank will host an Open House at its Kilgore branch from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday to welcome its new manager. Darla Rutland, manager of bank at 910 N. Kilgore St., is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the branch, and developing and maintaining relationships with consumer and business-banking customers to ensure their financial needs are met.

Accelerated evening classes for adults offered at KC
      Accelerated evening classes for adults offered at KC-Longview this fall Kilgore College will offer classes at KCLongview this fall geared toward working adults. Called QUEST classes, they will give students an opportunity to earn 12 hours of college credit in only 16 weeks.

LAIRD HILL FIRE
     In Laird Hill Monday evening, the trailer house, car and all of Stormie Chasten's belongings went up in smoke. The home, located at 12667 CR 2012 and owned by Walter Walkers, was a complete loss. Chasten's mother said she saw smoke coming from behind the home when she picked up her daughter for church at 5:30 p.m. The Kilgore Fire Department sent one truck and four men, who got the fire under control in 20 minutes, according to the fire chief. No injures were reported, but they are still looking for the family pet, a wiener dog.

     Tigger, a Persian/brown Tabby mix, has a lovely long coat, gorgeous green eyes, and a sweet personality. Brave little Barkley was found in the street and brought in by an employee. This Shepherd mix is sweet-tempered and loving and enjoys being held. This adorable kid is ready for a brand new home!       Phil Patterson, Habitat president greeted family, friends and Habitat workers on Sunday. Rhonda Gardner and her son, Jacoba Gardner are the new residents. Habitat Vice President G. W. Woodmansee was on hand to thank volunteers for all their support of this project which started in 2007.

KC in-person registration set for Aug. 18-19
      Students who plan to attend Kilgore College this semester may register in person Aug. 18-19. Registration will be held on both campuses in Longview and Kilgore from 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Registration in Kilgore will be held in the Devall Student Center and in Longview at the KC-Longview Hendrix Building.

      Kilgore Community Crisis Center seeks donations for its annual back-to-school shoe drive Aug. 20-21 at First Baptist Church.
