FRIDAY AFTER 5 ON AUG. 7 will feature rising country singer-songwriter Jarrett McAlister, formerly of Kilgore, at the World's Richest Acre. The concert begins at 6, so bring your lawn chair and refreshments, and come downtown to enjoy the free show.

DANVILLE UNITED METHODIST CHURCH WOMEN will host a food drive for Helping Hands of Kilgore on Aug. 1, from 2 to 4 p.m. in the church Fellowship Hall. Ice cream and cake served; admission is four non-perishable food items per person.

JOY BAPTIST CHURCH members invite everyone to their annual Homecoming Celebration Aug. 2. The church, located at the intersection of FM 1252 and Joy Wright Mountain Road in Liberty City, is celebrating 104 years. Services begin at 10:30 a.m., followed by a barbecue fellowship.
