TRAPPED AT MEADOWBROOK
     Jeff McBryde blasts out of the trap on the sixth hole Friday during the Meadowbrook Classic at Meadowbrook Country Club. McBryde, with teammates Jess Stephens,Scott Montgomery and John Patterson were in the first flight. The Classic dates back to 1937 when Bill Clark, from Gladewater, won with a score of two over par. Rick Maxey, from Tyler has won the tournment four times, including last year when he finished at eight under.

Pump Jacks continue skid
      iPods are necessities when you spend a long time on a bus, and while everyone's tastes differ, it's fair to say that Willie Nelson's "On The Road Again" isn't on any East Texas Pump Jacks play list right now. The Pump Jacks visited Coppell Thursday night and came up on the short end of a 7-3 decision at the hands of the Copperheads.

Emergency Services softball tourney set
      Area emergency services department -- police, fire, rescue or EMS -- are invited to participate in a slow-pitch softball tournament with games to precede Pump Jacks games July 16, 21 and 24. The tournament will honor past emergency services personnel.

DU banquet will honor past leaders
      The Gregg County Ducks Unlimited has scheduled its 40th Annual Gregg County Ducks Unlimited Banquet for 6 p.m., Thursday, August 6, in Longview's Maude Cobb Activity and Convention Center. The local committee will provide special recognition for all individuals who served as area chairperson (banquet chairperson) during the 40-year history of the Gregg Co. DU banquet.

      The inaugural Texas Prospects July 4 Showcase came down to two locally based teams of high school allstars battling for the top spot One Kilgore baseball player was included on the roster of one of the teams put together to showcase the boys' talents for college scouts.

Pump Jacks Fireworks Fridays are nearing an end; tickets are available
      Friday, July 17, is the Pump Jacks' next Fireworks Friday, presented by KLTV News and The Breeze. The Jacks will light up the night sky with a spectacular post-game fireworks show. It's one of just two remaining Fireworks Fridays on the season.
