Gregg County cuts auto registration fee By MELISSA GREENE for the News Herald Gregg County Commissioners Court unanimously approved a 10 percent cut in the County Road and Bridge Fee on Monday. Residents will see the decrease reflected in their auto registration fee beginning January 1, 2010. The fee decreased to $9 from $10. Court Clerk Connie Wade advised the court investments are down as expected due to the current economy, but County Judge Bill Stoudt said the county is still in good shape and able to offer the decrease. For Precinct 3, Commissioners unanimously approved $11,468 to assist Gladewater Independent School District by cleaning an area surrounding an old swimming pool facility. The facility is located at the corner of Jeanette Avenue and Tenery Street in Gladewater. Also, $4,540 was approved to finish the replacement of the roof and air conditioners at the Kilgore Office and Community Building and approval was given to Verizon-Tx, Inc. to place a buried drop and road bore line in the right-of-way of Cargill Road. Commissioners also appointed 23 election judges and alternate judges for county elections to be held during the August 2009 – July 2010 voting period. “They (the appointments) do not include judges who may serve in the 2010 Primary election. Those will be party appointments,” said Kathryn Nealy, election administrator. The Republican and Democratic Party chairman submit names to the commissioners based on votes cast in each precinct during the last gubernatorial election. The party with the highest votes submits the name for judge, and the party with the second highest votes submits the name for alternate judge, Nealy said.
