GREGG COUNTY DEMOCRATIC PARTY will present John Sharp, a candidate for U.S. Senate, at the Greggton Community Center, 3211 W. Marshall Ave., Longview. The fish fry fundraiser costs $10 and begins at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 14.

THURSDAY

THURSDAYS IN THE PATCH will present Wallace "Wally" Fowler and son in a free concert under the derricks at the World's Richest Acre Park beginning at 6:30 p.m. July 16. Concerts sponsored by Kilgore Historical Preservation Foundation the third Thursday of each month through November. Bring your lawn chairs and come out and enjoy the Fowlers' popular music for all ages!

BUILDING WITH ALTERNATIVE ENERGY SYSTEMS half-day workshop, aimed at contractors and building professionals, begins 8:30 a.m. July 11 at Centro Christiano Restauracion Church, 325 Broadway, Tyler. Sponsored by the Hispanic Business Services Office, Texas College and Circle of Ten's Rebuild America-Rural Community Building Initiative, the workshop focuses on wind, photovoltaic cells, geothermal and insulated concrete form alternative systems, as they relate to structural, foundation, mechanical, interior finishes and roofing. SFASU MAST ARBORETUM will host its monthly Les Reeves Garden Lecture Series at 7 p.m. July 16 in Room 110 of the Agriculture Building on Wilson Drive on the SFA campus in Nacogdoches. Cliff Shackelford, ornithologist for the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, will present "Do Hummingbirds Really Migrate by Riding on the Backs of Geese?" In this presentation, he will take a humorous yet informative look at the most commonly asked questions by the general public regarding the state's birdlife. A free plant raffle will be held following the lecture. There is no charge for the lecture and no reservations are required. KILGORE CHURCH WOMEN will meet 11:30 a.m. July 24 at First Presbyterian Church, 815 E. Main. Lunch will be followed by a program presented by Eugene Davis, executive director of the Kilgore Crisis Center and motivational speaker. A brief business meeting will end at 1 p.m. All women of the community are encouraged to attend. If possible, please bring sandwiches or other finger foods, salad or dessert.

SATURDAY

PANCAKE BREAKFAST BENEFIT at Lone Star Harley Davidson in Tyler will raise money for Parent Services Center, Inc. Breakfast, which includes pancakes, grits and eggs, will be served 9:30-11 a.m. July 11 at 1211 SSE Loop 323. A donation of at least $5 is requested. Also includes a 50/50 contest and a H.O.G. trunk show. Parent Services Center, Inc. is a non-profit agency that provides parent education classes, support groups, special lectures and workshops, referral services and professional continuing education opportunities to strengthen and support families.
