The Great Texas Balloon Race is about teamwork, the pilots could not function without the ground crews and for that part, the help of other racers. This weekend, 65 balloons took to the sky to start a three day long event with pilots coming from all over the United States to fly. One such crew is from Baton Rouge, La., (above rigt, left to right)The ground crew, Allen Rentz, Robin Dejean, Lisa Bonanno and John Wood is the pilot. John has been flying since 1990. It was a smooth flight on Friday morning, but the landings were not without a few scrapes. (Immediatlly above,left to right) one pilot got hung on a light pole, but with help from fellow balloonists on the ground, came down with a slight tear but no injuries and another pilot found some trees in his way, but again came through without a scratch, good work. The Balloon Glow last night and tonight at East Texas Regional Airport, with the race finishes Sunday morning. More...
DEAR DR. DONOHUE: Recently, my daughter attended a sweet-16 birthday party for one of her best friends. She is a beautiful girl. When my daughter showed me pictures of her friend, I was shocked. Her face and arms were deeply tanned. I have no idea how many hours she must have spent under a tanning machine. I am very concerned about her. More...
Jeff McBryde blasts out of the trap on the sixth hole Friday during the Meadowbrook Classic at Meadowbrook Country Club. McBryde, with teammates Jess Stephens,Scott Montgomery and John Patterson were in the first flight. The Classic dates back to 1937 when Bill Clark, from Gladewater, won with a score of two over par. Rick Maxey, from Tyler has won the tournment four times, including last year when he finished at eight under. More...
Memorial services for Martha Beth Jeter Rogers, 91, of Hemet, California, will be 1 p.m. July 17, 2009, at Green Hills Memorial Park, Rancho Palos Verdes, California. She passed away July 2, 2009, at Devonshire Care Center in Hemet. Before moving to Hemet she was a longtime resident of Wilmington, California. More...
