      A young artist came from Nepal to the United States in pursuit of learning art, and now nine years later his talents are being recognized. Anup Bhandari is a graduate of Kilgore College now attends the University of Texas at Tyler.

Operator funded state plugging program reaches milestone
      Texas Railroad Commissioners announced this month that plugging activities for the state's abandoned oil and gas wells reached a milestone with the plugging of the 30,000th abandoned well. Since 1984, the commission has been plugging wells for which there is no responsible operator.

VETS GIVE HELPING HAND
     Helping Hands received a $1,000 helping hand this week from members of the Disabled Veterans of America Auxiliary, Chapter 21 in Kilgore. Friday morning Judy Cotton, DAVA treasurer, presented the check to Jerry Hurt, Helping Hands vice president and a member of the Disabled American Veterans. DAVA held garage and bake sales and sold cookbooks to raise the money. Hurt said the food pantry was in dire need of two new freezers and now can afford to purchase them.

      Kilgore police officers worked 26 calls and made one arrest on Tuesday. Be patriotic: Drive safely for July 4
      Texas drivers are urged to drive safely during the July 4 holiday weekend. Starting Friday and going through midnight on Sunday, Texas Highway Patrol troopers will be out in force, looking for people who are driving drunk, speeding or not wearing safety belts.

KPD reports vehicle burglaries on the rise
      Kilgore police officers are "aggressively investigating" seven vehicle burglaries that occurred on Thursday, June 25. According to a news release from KPD Lt. Det. Roman Roberson, the burglaries occurred during the early morning hours, mostly in the eastern part of town in the Stone Road area, and they appear to be related.
