Kilgoreite discusses Corps of Engineers history

Chapter 57, East Texas Sons of the American Revolution met at Johnny Cace's in Longview on June 4. President John Bolton introduced Tom Conner of Kilgore, who presented the program for the evening.

Conner gave the history of the U.S. Corps of Engineers, established by George Washington on June 16, 1775. Conner served in the organization for many years, serving in the United States and assignments in the Far East, Europe and the Middle East.

During the business of the evening, six new members were inducted into the chapter: Charles E. Stone, Glenn R. Stone, Glenn R. Stone, Jr., Mason G.W. Stone, Charles D. Stone and Billy Ray Shivers.

The next meeting will be 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 6, at Johnny Cace's. Jim Wallace will present the program on United States and Confederate flags. Wallace owns hundreds of handmade flags and tells the history of each flag.
