The best-of-times, worst-oftimes scenario played out this week for the East Texas Pump Jacks, and in that order. Headed into their two-game series Wednesday night at Brazos Valley, the Jacks were leading the Texas Collegiate League standings, coming off a sweep at Victoria that included their 10th win of the young season. More ... Several Kilgore Boys Baseball Association all-star teams haven't even yet started their district tournaments, but two have already qualified for the state round, and did so in style. The 5-and-6 year-old T-ball all-star team got to play its district tournament here in Kilgore, and had a great time doing it. More ... Now Marcus Thornton will get to try his hand at scoring against NBA defenses. Thornton, a former Kilgore College player and Region XIV Conference most valuable player, was drafted in the second round of the Nat ional Basketball Ass ocia- t i o n ' s annual draft on Thurs- day night, More ... Before moving to anything related to sports, I have to touch just a little bit on the amount of response I received after last weekend's column, one where I went on a bit of a rant wanting more strict laws on the books to regulate pit bull ownership.
