YOUR EAST TEXAS PUMP JACKS ARE LOOKING PRETTY GOOD
     WHACK! — Brett Nicholas (23) of the East Texas Pump Jacks gets a hit against McKinney in the Pump Jacks' 12-1 rout of the Marshals at Driller Park on Saturday night. The Pump Jacks have won four of their last five games and at press time Tuesday, in sole possession of first place in the Texas Collegiate League. They've been on the road all week, but the Pump Jacks will return home for two games on Friday and Saturday against the TCL's second-place team, Victoria. See coverage of the Pump Jacks' week on page 8.

T-ballers, 7-8 Nationals keep on rolling

      One of the farthest road trips for a Kilgore Boys Baseball Association (KBBA) all-star team this year is the trip being made by the 7-and-8 year-old National League all-stars, coached by Bubba Keel, Dickie McFarland, Jeff Davis and Tony Witt.

Gregg Co. DU banquet Aug. 6
      scheduled its 40th annual Gregg County Ducks Unlimited Banquet for 6 p.m. the night of Thursday, August 6, at Longview's Maude Cobb Activity and Convention Center. "Forty years is a long time to keep an event going without interruption," said Gregg County DU area chairman Kim Winn.

BIG YEAR AND A BIG TREAT FOR THE REDS
     The 11-12 year-old Reds celebrated their perfect season in Kilgore Boys Baseball Association play on June 17 with a trip to see the Texas Rangers take on the Houston Astros in an interleague Major League Baseball game in Arlington. The boys went 14-0 over the course of the KBBA season and were rewarded by their coaches with the trip to see the Rangers and Astros. Pictured on the front row (left to right) are Chris Powe, Colton Thomas, Trey Conrod, Joseph Shepherd and Andy Raby. Majors to play in Marshall
      A team of 15 through 19-year-olds will represent Kilgore in the Dixie Majors 15-19 year-old tournament in Marshall this weekend. If they finish either first or second in the tournament, they'll advance to state in Paris July 11. A state event win gets them to the World Series in Charleston, S.C. July 25.

Sporting clay benefit July 17-18
      The 10th annual Texas Bank and Trust Sporting Clay Challenge benefiting Buckner Children and Family services returns July 17 & 18: the longest running and most popular pre-hunting season event in the area. Five man teams are welcome to participate in the ten shots per ten stands, plus a mulligan, at Prairie Creek Shootings Clays, north of Liberty City.

The Pump Jacks are playing great baseball, lead the league and have won four of five; they'll be back at Driller Park this weekend
      It's four wins in the last five games now for the East Texas Pump Jacks, who were victorious Monday night at — well, Victoria, a 5-3 win over the second-place Generals. The Pump Jacks are 9-3 on the season to date, headed into Tuesday night's game at Victoria that was to be played following the deadline for this edition of the News Herald.
