Big homecoming for Pump Jacks
Beat Coppell 10-5 Thursday; play at Driller Park all this weekend
      Now that the East Texas Pump Jacks have the steering wheel of the Texas Collegiate League, they want to keep it. The league-leading Pump Jacks, back at home Thursday night for the first time since Sunday, held off visiting Coppell, 10-5.

KC spring game, '08 games to be re-aired
      Anyone who missed the Kilgore College football program's spring game a few weeks ago, or anyone who'd like to go back and watch a game or two from the last season is in luck. Beginning this Saturday, Longview/Kilgore Cable is going to rebroadcast select Rangers games from last season.

      Normally here in this space, I have a little fun, talk about sports, things going on in the world and the like. Today, it's not going to be fun. There's not going to be any stupid jokes. I want to be completely serious and bring up a topic that is going to turn a lot of heads.

TENNIS, TENNIS, ALL THE TIME
     About 72 campers of just about all youth ages turned out this week for Kilgore High School's annual clinic, instructed by Kilgore High coach Jason Maroney, Maude Laird Middle School coach Dana Sneed, and by Bob Conroy of the Longview Tennis Association. The clinic consisted of all sorts of tennis-related drills and games, and by all accounts, the campers had lots of fun. LOCAL SPORTS IN BRIEF
      BASKETBALL KC boys camp in July The Kilgore College Rangers' men's basketball team will hold a summer skills camp July 13-17. The camp will focus on development of beginning to intermediate basketball skills, ending with a basketball game on the last day of camp.

BAKER CLEANS UP IN TYLER MEET!
     Leverett's Chapel soon-to-be sophomore Tiphany Baker (above) competed in the NASA Powerlifting meet on June 13 in Tyler, and picked up quite a bit of hardware. Tiphany won first place in three divisions: high school, teenage and juniors. She had an 8-for-9 day and totaled 767 pounds, which set three personal records: a 160-pound press, a 314-pound deadlift, and the 767-pound total. She will compete in the NASA South Texas Open on July 18 in Alvin. Congratulations, Tiphany!
