ROUND UP OLD STYLE AT THE SPRADLIN RANCH
Cattle drives still require a lot of horsepower
      In the old days, when it was time to bring in the herd, cowboys got their horses, got the dogs and headed out to round up the cattle. On Sonny Spradlin's ranch, things are done the same way today. Spradlin owns a ranch on FM2012 with approximately 100 head of cattle and it was time to bring them in, tag them, give them shots and perform castrations.

Little beauty to vie for national crown
      Five-year-old Miakoda Freeman will compete for Little Miss America during a national pageant July 30- Aug. 2. Miakoda, who will be a kindergartner at Sabine Elementary in the fall, qualified for the national title after winning the Little Miss Texas Starlet crown in the 4- to 6-year-old age category. She represented Gregg County in that pageant.

Kilgore Church Women meet at First Christian
      Members of Kilgore Church Women met in the Fellowship Hall at First Christian Church on April 24, with guest speaker Carol Littleton. The room was decorated with birdhouses. President Eunice Evers called the meeting to order and thanked the ladies of First Christian for hosting the luncheon.

'50s Rangerettes recall the good old days
      A group of Rangerettes from the 1950s era came together for a reunion during the annual Rangerette Revels in April. The exes gathered from several Texas towns and as far away as Akron, Ohio, to renew friendships and recall memories of their Rangerette years at Kilgore College.

Children's book delights sorority members
      Preceptor Omicron Epsilon chapter Beta Sigma Phi met on June 9 at the home of Jennie Daigle. President Annette Morgan presided. Officers and committee chairmen reported on their activities. Jennifer Utzman explained a change of dues enacted by City Council. Dimples Burns, service chairman, reported $26 was collected for Helping Hands.
