It's all-star tournament time again, and the Kilgore Boys Baseball Association's all-star teams will begin journeying out this weekend to play their respective district tournaments. Two tournaments will begin here on Friday, and several others begin either this Friday or next. All tournaments are double-elimination. More ... Headed into a three-day break before a long stretch of games, the East Texas Pump Jacks got just what they wanted on Sunday night: a win. The Pump Jacks, playing for the second straight night at home, beat the Brazos Valley Bombers, 3- 1, Sunday at Driller Park. More ... A pair of Kilgore players, Danny Sharpe and Nathan Mendenhall, received superlative honors on the recently named District 14- 4A All-District team, and 11 others were recognized as well, six on the first team. Mendenhall, who filled an important role at shortstop and did a nice job, was chosen sophomore of the year. More ... About 170 campers turned out for this year's Kilgore College Rangers football camp last weekend, held primarily at R.E. St. John Memorial Stadium. The camp was conducted not just by KC coach J.J. Eckert and his staff, but also with the help of KC players, and even people like Kilgore High School offensive coordinator Chris Vallery and former KC and Kilgore standout Clint Toon. With Skeeter owners from around the country converging on Lake Fork this weekend for the 16th annual Skeeter Owner's Tournament, breaking the largemouth bass state record may not be obtainable, but a spot in the top 50 could be within reach, according to Team Skeeter and Mineola native Kelly Jordon. More ... Kilgore Wal-Mart SuperCenter manager John Kenna announced a donation of $1,000 to the Kilgore and Kilgore College Ducks Unlimited committee. "Wal-Mart has always supported the outdoor sports, especially hunting and fishing," Kenna said. "With this donation, we support not only those activities but also wetland conservation." Brad Tindel, local DU chairman, said that the donation will be used to increase the items available in raffles and auctions at the Kilgore DU banquet. Fifty-four teams — 102 people — braved the East Texas June sun and heat last weekend to help the East Texas Treatment Center raise money. The fundraiser was the treatment center's annual golf tournament, the East Texas Treatment Center Classic, played right here at Meadowbrook Country Club. More ...
