Abercrombie, Hubbard top Boys, Girls club members
      A pair of Kilgore students have been named Members of the Month by Kilgore Boys and Girls Club. 6 to 9 Age Group Seven year old Member of the Month for May, 2009 is Ja'da Abercrombie. She is a 2nd grader at Chandler Elementary School. Her favorite subject in school is recess and favorite activity at the Club is to play bumper pool. Bike riding is her hobby.

Mankins sentenced to 7 years on meth charge
      James Earl Mankins Jr., 56, Kilgore, was sentenced to seven years and three months in prison by U.S. District Judge Leonard Davis after he pleaded guilty to possessing with the intent to distribute methamphetamine, admitting that he possessed half an ounce of meth on Oct. 30.

New-millenium kids learn 60s tie-dye techniques
      Don't be surprised to see scores of kids and a few adults running around town this summer in tie-dyed Tshirts. As part of Kilgore Public Library's Summer Reading Program, at least a couple hundred kids and a handful of parents took part in Tie- Dye T-Shirt Days, held on the first two Thursdays in June.

Local Salvation Army served about 70,000 meals last year, house 60 nightly
      Even as the U.S. economy has struggled in recent months, the leader of the Salvation Army in Longview said his organization has been able to meet its obligations. Major Robert Winters told the Kilgore Lions Club Wednesday that his group collected more donations than ever during its 2008 "Red Kettle" drive.

Whitehead, Dane sing for Rotarians
      John Whitehead and Debbie Dane entertained the Kilgore Rotary Club with "Songs of the Decades" on Wednesday. The couple are noted East Texas performers besides being successful career people. Whitehead is an attorney, administrates a program at Kilgore College and is known for past roles in East Texas Community Theater and his singing performances with a number of groups.

CORRECTIONS
      The price per foot for construction printed in the Sabine ISD story published in the Wednesday edition was in error. The estimated price to build a new elementary school, as presented by Larry Odom to the SISD school board, is $170 per square foot, per his architect sources, not $75.
