KILGOROUND

BILL WOODALL

WE'RE TOLD THAT Pam's Diner (at least that's what Mr. Pam calls it when he's in a jocular humor) at Lake Cherokee includes fried green tomatoes on her menu. AND I'd be willing to be that Ellen Watson has a good recipe for them, as well. (My wager is based on the quality of her peppery pickles. If she offers you a pickle sample and warns that it has "a little kick," you should trust her.) ANY thoughts on where the best "commercially prepared" fried green tomatoes might be purchased in this area? I'd beg some from Pam's Diner or Ellen's Culinary Resort but begging is considered poor form. +++ THE WALL Street Journal carried a report this week on a new literary genre: Cashier Memoirs. CASHIERS from Italy, France, German and the U.S. - and maybe more - have written books (one

has actually penned two "thin" books) about their experiences with customers.

STORIES include customers sharing the details about the recent death of a spouse, money stored in stockings, customers who stink, and more.

AS it turns out, everyone really does have a story to tell.

WE suspect that most of the folks who should take advantage of the Summer Food Service Program at the Boys and Girls Club don't spend much time reading this newspaper. But, you read it and you know someone whose children - 18 and under - could stand a free breakfast and/or lunch.

BEGINNING Tuesday, June 9, breakfast will be served from 8 to 9 a.m. and lunch will be served from 11 a.m. until noon.

KILGORE'S Boys and Girls Club is at 724 Harris Street.

PLEASE pass the information along to someone who needs it.

YOU missed an opportunity to get rich. TV Guide, the magazine, sold last month for $1.

THAT'S not per copy, that's what the entire magazine division sold for.
