KC to offer 'Spanish for Banking' course Spanish for Banking will be offered by Kilgore College May 28-July 2 in the Bert E. Woodruff Adult Education Center in Kilgore. Classes will be held each evening from 6:30 to 9:30. Tuition for the six-week course is $100 for 16 hours of continuing education credit. Instruction in the Command Spanish system will prepare employees in financial institutions to communicate with Spanish-speaking customers. No prior knowledge of Spanish is required. The course is intended for non-Spanishspeaking financial personnel who work directly with Spanish speaking customers and who conduct routine transactions. By the end of the course participants will be able to use Spanish for greeting customers and assisting with transactions involving withdrawals, deposits, checking accounts and money orders. In addition employees will be able to verify identification and gather personal information. Command Spanish is a trademarked system that uses repetition and practice to learn key phrases for specific business settings. It does not require students to learn grammar. A 40-page reference manual is provided to each participant. Employees of banks, credit unions and savings and loans can benefit from Spanish for Banking. The course will promote professional communication and remove barriers with customers. Employees will be able to enhance their job performance and increase safety in the workplace. Spanish for Banking is offered through the KC Workforce Development Department which can also deliver Command Spanish to specific employers in their workplace on a contract basis. Other Command Spanish topics include Spanish for automobile sales, hotel/motel staff and retail sales.
