Helping Hands seeks financial aid from city

Two volunteers with Helping Hands of Kilgore appealed to the city council last week to contribute funds to the organization. Jerry Hurt, vice president of Helping Hands, said the food bank is in need of money because of the economic downturn and layoffs, as well as higher food costs. Helping Hands also aids those who are unable to pay utility bills.
