Kilgore FFA celebrates a great school year
      Goodbyes were said, tears were shed and members looked forward to a new year during the Kilgore High School FFA's annual banquet Thursday night. The Top Ten Belt Buckle Winners were: 1. CONCERT IN THE PARK
     As band directors Mitchell Smith, Jeff Smith and Tiffany McWillians lead the Maude Laird Middle School 6th, 7th and 8th grade bands, plus Kilgore High School bands for Concert in the Park, hundreds of parents and friends enjoyed the concert on the grass in Kilgore City Park. The event is conducted annually at the end of each school year.

Helping Hands seeks financial aid from city
      Two volunteers with Helping Hands of Kilgore appealed to the city council last week to contribute funds to the organization. Jerry Hurt, vice president of Helping Hands, said the food bank is in need of money because of the economic downturn and layoffs, as well as higher food costs. Helping Hands also aids those who are unable to pay utility bills.

Deadline June 13th for high school theater workshops
      Kilgore College will host two one-week workshops this summer for high school theater students. The workshops will be taught by professional actors working with the Texas Shakespeare Festival. Techniques taught may include scene work, audition monologues, voice and speech, stage combat and musical theatre. Both modern and classical plays will be explored.

      Small businesses suffering financial hardship as a result of the slow economy may be eligible to receive temporary relief to keep their doors open and get their cash flow back on track through to a new loan program announced this week by the Small Business Administrator.

Enforcement Blitz 'Buckling Down' On Those Not Buckled Up—Day and Night
      The Kilgore Police Department and Kilgore College Police Department will be stepping up enforcement of seatbelt violations due to their participation in the statewide 2009 Memorial Day program, Click It or Ticket. The campaign is statewide and is designed to increase the use of safety belts and save lives by reducing highway fatalities.

Kilgore girl named to Who's Who Among Students
      NACOGDOCHES — Brittany Krantz, a graduate of Kilgore High School, has been chosen for inclusion in Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges. Krantz is a senior at Stephen F. Austin State University majoring in dance and English and maintains a 3.9 GPA.

GREGG HOME FOR THE AGED
     A special lunch was held at The Gregg County Home for the Aged on Friday with a cook-out featuring kabobs. Heartsway Hospice provided the fixin's for chicken and beef kabobs. Members of Heartsway Hospice (HH) and Texas Home Health Hospice (THHH) helped with the lunch and Chaplain Don Ross did the cooking, along with Billy Bob Brady. Manhunt for escaped Gregg County inmates
      Gregg County Sheriff 's deputies and Texas Rangers are investigating an incident of two missing inmates from custody after an issued jail uniform shirt was discovered outside of the courthouse before noon today. An immediate lockdown of all three Gregg County jail facilities was initiated and two inmates were discovered missing from the South facility.

1000 jobs available at job fairs
      Dozens of employers are seeking to fill over 1,000 positions that East Texas job seekers will have the opportunity to apply for at Congressman Louie Gohmert's upcoming East Texas Job Fairs. These numbers are expected to grow as more businesses and entities continue to sign up for the events that will be held in Lufkin and Longview in June, Gohmert said.
