Hallsville holds off Bulldogs
'Cats come back, win 4-2
      For the first six innings of Thursday evening's UIL Class 4A bi-district baseball playoff game at Hallsville, the Kilgore High School Diamond 'Dogs were almost perfect. In the sixth inning, though, the Bobcats took advantage of a few mistakes, scored three runs and ended the Bulldogs' promising 2009 season.

HIGH SCHOOL TRACK & FIELD/ 4A REGION II MEET
Bulldogs fall short of state
      Even though no member of the Kilgore High School track and field team qualified for the state meet, as some have done in the past, both track coaches agree it was a good season for KHS track, and that the experience of sending such a young team to regionals should benefit them in the seasons to come.

HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL
Lady 'Dogs earn all-district honors
      It was their first playoff season since 2006, and while the Kilgore High School softball team didn't get out of the first round, they were impressive down the stretch in district play and several members of the team have been recognized for that achievement.

LOCAL SPORTS IN BRIEF
      GOLF Lions tourney next weekend The annual Kilgore Lions Club golf tournament will be next Friday, May 22, at Meadowbrook Country Club, a two-person scramble whose proceeds go to help various causes. There is a team entry fee of $150, or a solo entry fee of $75. Entry includes cart and green fees, and two mulligans per player.

McCrory, E-R off to NAIA series
      Another team, another winner for Pat McCrory, who has helped his new college team to the NAIA World Series. McCrory, now a senior at Embry-Riddle in Daytona, Fla., helped the Eagles to a win over Auburn-Montgomery Thursday night in the regional at Embry-Riddle's home field, allowing the Eagles to go 3-0 in the regional and earn the NAIA trip.

Todd still impressing in Memphis, and now learning a new role
      So far, so good for Kilgore native Jess Todd, pitching in the St. Louis Cardinals organization and back with the club's triple-A team, the Memphis Redbirds. Todd, normally a starter, is having to get used to doing things a little differently lately — the Redbirds needed strong closer, and they've handed Todd the job.
