KHS tracksters into second day at regional meet By MITCH LUCAS sports@kilgorenewsherald.com Members of Kilgore High School’s track and field team are still competing in the UIL Region II Class 4A Track & Field Championships, as the meet enters its final day today. So far, the best Kilgore finisher has been senior Shaun Edwards, who earned third place, a bronze medal, in the high jump. Top two finishers in each event qualify for the state track meet in Austin at the University of Texas on June 5-6. Today, there were several other KHS athletes to compete -- Colby Rosen and Shadow Stokes were to both represent Kilgore in the discus, and Joel Venegas, the Bulldogs’ long-distance runner, was to run in the finals of the 800 meter run. On the girls side, Lillian Gipson was to participate in the girls shot put for KHS. In other results from Tuesday, Edwards and LaDarius Anthony each competed in the long jump, with Anthony finishing with a 43 feet, 2 1/2 inch best and Edwards and 43 feet, 3/4 inch. Neither were in the top 10. Raven Wiley, a KHS senior, finished fifth in the girls discus, a throw of 129 feet, 10 inches.
