      The Kilgore Senior Citizens met for lunch April 22 in the Lions Building. President Audrey Fulcher gave the opening prayer and Roy Tucker led the group in prayer. Seniors played bingo with Joyce Riddles doing the calling, assisted by Shari Butler.

      The New England Colony Chapter of the National Society Colonial Dames 17th Century met Feb. 21 at the Cotton Patch Cafe in Longview. The meeting was called to order by President Othodell Smith, who led the opening prayer and the Pledge to the U.S. Flag. The salute to the Texas Flag was led by Lynda Harris. The salute to the Colonial Dames Flag was led by Dorothy Brooks.

      Sarah Robertson, a senior at Southern Methodist University was recently inducted into Phi Beta Kappa, the oldest and most prestigious college honor society in the United States. Phi Beta Kappa was founded in 1776 at William and Mary.

     Eva Blossom Simpson Kristi and Michael Simpson announce the birth of their daughter, Evie Blossom Simpson, at 5 a.m. Jan. 29, 2009. Born at home in Kilgore, she weighed 8 pounds 8 ounces and was 19 inches long. Maternal grandparents are Charlie and Glynda Hale and great-grandparents are J.E. and Lois Harvey, all of Kilgore. Paternal grandparents are Dale and Janis Simpson of Overton. Evie Blossom is welcomed home by her brothers Wesley and Nathan and sisters Hale' and Emma.

      Members of Northeast Texas Women Veterans Waves Ago met March 28 at the Elks Lodge in Longview. Members Vi Hammett and Jackie Wiley presented a book review. In honor of Women's History Month, the unit presented the book "Nancy Love and the WASP Ferry Pilots of WWII" to the Longview Public Library.
