News Herald Photo by Brenda Brown Even as festivities got underway Wednesday in celebration of Allegiance Specialty Hospital's alliance with Good Shepherd Medical Center, the outside signs were going up in front of the former Laird Memorial Hospital. Sherry Bustin, Allegiance CEO here, told the crowd, "Good things are happening at this hospital." GSMC now offers an urgent care center, family medicine and occupational clinics and OrthoDirect services. Allegiance operates an 18-bed geriatric behavioral health unit with plans to expand, as well as an acute care unit for persons ages 18 and over, and outpatient counseling services. More...

Kilgore's sales tax allocation tax check in May dropped almost 11 percent and $100,000 compared to the same period last year, according to the Texas Comptroller's Office. This week the city received a check for $845,944.44, down 10.72 percent from the $947,534.39 received last May. The city's tax rate is 1.5 percent. More...
