KILGORE COLLEGE SPRING FLING
Food and fun at the Fling
(top three photos, clockwise) Marvin Smith dumps more crawfish, KC Athletic Director Jimmy Rieves prepares to dig in and Dillon Horton and Sarah Griffin entertain the crowd. Kilgore College held their annual Spring Fling on Wednesday, and this year it was all about the appetite.
Students, faculty and more, had to bring their appetites, The Crawfish Stand, located in Big Sandy, served up 1300 pounds of boiled crawfish.
Rodney Murphy, the owner of The Crawfish Stand, along with Marvin Smith, his employee, turned giant basket, after basket of the crawfish, as students lined up to enjoy the food.
After a great lunch, it was right next door, where Charlie's Snowballs was serving up almost any flavor you could imagine of icy delights.
All this was provided by the KC Student Activities.
For entertainment, there was a band with no name and a couple of pickers, hoping to make the big time.
Dillon Horton, 21, a KC student and Sarah Griffin, 20, a former KC student, now studying at Stephen F. Austin, were picking, singing and Dillon was adding a little humor.
Dillon said he and Sarah are good friends who joined up a little over a year ago. "We have performed at the Gladewater Opry, which we will be at tonight," said Dillon. "I play guitar, sing and tell a few jokes, but Sarah has the great voice."
Sarah said she has been playing and singing since the eighth grade. "We have also performed at churches and other civic functions," said Sarah.
The two are putting together a demonstration tape, and with a little help from a friend, they hope to be singing and playing in Bransom, Mo.
Dillon said they play mostly country, but they do some bluegrass and gospel as well.
