Kilgore teams home tonight; Sabine at New Diana
HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL
The Kilgore High School girls varsity basketball team took a big step in District 14-4A play last weekend, picking up their first district win and tying their record. For the KHS varsity boys, the journey, which they hope will end sometime in the UIL Class 4A playoffs, begins tonight. And as for both Sabine High basketball teams, it's all about putting distance between themselves and their nearest district rivals. The Kilgore teams are all home tonight, hosting Lindale in what will be the third district contest for the girls' squads, but the first for the Bulldogs. Play begins at KHS gymnasium at 5 p.m. — coach Davia Garrett's varsity girls will likely play around 6:30 p.m., and coach Jimmy Williams' varsity boys will follow. The Lady Bulldogs come off a very important win at Nacogdoches after dropping the district opener here last week against Jacksonville. The Bulldogs lost their final two non-district games last week, but played well in both. Sabine's boys are now 22-3, 3-0 in District 18-2A, and routed Elysian Fields on Friday night. The Lady Cardinals are 4-1 in district play, and got back on the right track with a win Friday after a 3-0 district start. Games begin at 4 p.m. with JV.
