Kilgore Seniors celebrate Christmas The Kilgore Senior Citizens group met Dec. 10, at the Kilgore Lions Building for their annual Christmas dinner, a turkey and ham feast enjoyed by all. The meeting was called to order by President Betty Roebuck at 11:30 a.m. Ray Drost led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance. Mark Fried gave the opening prayer. The program was given by Mark Fried, minister of music at Forest Home Baptist Church. In his baritone voice, he sang an assortment of Christmas songs such at "White Christmas," "Joseph's Song," "Mary, Did You Know?" and "Jingle Bells." The program was enjoyed by all. It was Mark's birthday and the group sang "Happy Birthday" to him. Four visitors were welcomed: Mark Fried, Cindy Provance, Gloria Gannaway and Barbara Lear. President Roebuck read a poem, "It's Christmas time." The secretary and treasurer's reports were presented and approved. A thank-you card was read from Cora Holt. The Sunshine Lady gave her report. Get-well cards were sent to Pauline Davis, Roy Drost, Jo Poteet and Helen Fette; an anniversary card to Bill and Sherri Butler; a birthday card to Pauline Davis; and a hello card to Jo Poteet at The Willows. Sherri Butler reported the officer nomination committee recommended the following: Audrey Fulcher, president; Joyce Riddles, vice president; Mary Provance, secretary; and Betty Roebuck, treasurer. Darline Wilcox will be the chairperson in charge of callers. Sherrie made the motion to nominate these officers for the 2009 year, Ray Drost seconded and the motion carried. Joyce presented a gift to President Betty from the club to thank her for all she has done and wish her well. The president, in turn, presented Patsy Canterbury with a Christmas basket and monetary gift from the club. Gloria Gannaway announced Nell Bell was to have surgery. Roy Drost read an article entitled "Voicemail in Heaven." Mike Coston, president of the Lions Club and the Kilgore Chamber of Commerce, and Travis Martin, also with the Lions Club, were introduced. Door prizes were won by Edith Otts and Joyce Riddles. The Rev. Harry Lagrone gave the closing prayer and the president dismissed the group at 1 p.m.
