It was once again a good night for the Sabine High School boys basketball team on Tuesday, but not so great for the Kilgore High School varsity girls, who dropped their first District 14- 4A game of the season.
• Sabine whips Harmony: Sabine, state-ranked and rolling, played its 24th game of the season and the biggest, arguably, to date, routing Harmony in Harmony's gym, 78-57. The victory moves coach Tim Davis' Cardinals to 21-3 overall, but more importantly, 2-0 in District 18- 2A.
The game was tight early, with the Cards leading just 18-14 after the first period. But Sabine blew it open in the second, outscoring Harmony 21-8. Sabine's biggest weapon all season — the three-point shot — was utilized quite well by Harmony in the game. The Eagles hit 13 threes, and still lost by 21.
Noah Jackson led Sabine with 22 points. Lie'Quan Byrd had 18, Colton Kirk 15 and Tyler Woodrell, 11. Joshua Montana had six, Jacob Kenna four, and Hunter Powdrill and Zach Royce two each. Woodrell had 11 rebounds. Jackson had nine, and hit three treys.
Ryan Rendon, who also had three three-pointers, paced Harmony with 16 points. Wesley Schoon had 15 (all from threepoint range), and Colton Bunn, 11.
Sabine returns home Friday to take on Elysian Fields.
Sabine's girls lost at Harmony on Tuesday — it was the Lady Cardinals' first district loss, although no other information was available at press time. Sabine's girls are 3-1 in district play, and also host Elysian Fields on Friday.
• Sabine 53, Harmony 23 (JV boys): It was also a big win for Sabine's JV team, who got 19 points from Kendrick Chumley. Shane Lewis scored nine for the Cardinals, and Phadarian Harper eight. The Sabine boys JV is 9- 6 this season.
• Kilgore drops to Jacksonville: The first game back for the Lady Bulldogs didn't go the way they'd hoped, with Jacksonville taking a 21-9 lead into halftime. Kilgore got as close as eight points twice in the fourth period, but that was as close as things got.
LaDoris Conrod had five second half points.
• Kilgore 37, Jacksonville 33 (JV girls): The Lady Bulldogs' JV team won their game, getting 14 points from Simone Barryer and 10 from Whitney Brittain. Also for Kilgore, Hunter Dean had six, Blair Ware and Laquasha Sheffield five each, and Kelsey Jackson, two.
Both KHS girls teams visit Nacogdoches on Friday night, beginning with freshmen at 5 p.m. The boys, who lost to Spring Hill on Monday, have one non-district game left: here on Friday against Hallsville, a 5 p.m. freshmen start.
