RONALD "RON" HUGHES

Graveside services for Ronald "Ron" Hughes, 69, of Kilgore will be held Wednesday, January 7, 2009, at Tyler Memorial Cemetery with the Reverend David Hampton officiating. Mr. Hughes passed away Friday, January 2, 2009, in Longview, Texas.

Mr. Hughes was born in Dooley County, Georgia, on April 7, 1939, to the late Wesley Lane and Hattie Ione Hughes. Ron graduated from Vienna High School in Vienna, Georgia, and was a graduate of Bellevue College in Bellevue, Nebraska. Mr. Hughes joined the United States Air Force in 1956 and served his country honorably until his retirement from the service in 1979. Ron later served as a Golf Course Superintendent at local golf courses, among them Meadowbrook Country Club in Kilgore and Shallow Creek Country Club in Liberty City.

Ron was very proud of his service to his country and was equally proud of the work that he did as a Greens Superintendent. He was married to the late Sybil Hughes, the mother of his three children. March 2000, he married Mary Lou Laux and they had a wonderful life together. Ron was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother.

He is survived by his wife Mary Lou of Kilgore; three children, Michael Hughes and wife Sherri of Fate, Texas, Cindie Bragg and husband Mike of Bristol, Virginia, and Russell Hughes and wife Amy of Desoto, Kansas; seven grandchildren; two brothers and their spouses, Doug and Joan Hughes of Sharpsburg, Georgia, Steve and Sara Hughes of Cordele, Georgia; and a sister, Brenda Hughes of Macon, Georgia.

Pallbearers will be Raul Cruz, Andrew Hughes, Austin Hughes, Trey Tillison, Kyle Widmer, and Brett Widmer.

The family will receive friends at Rader Funeral Home Tuesday evening between six and eight p.m.
