It's a New Year!

CHITCHAT CORNER
LINDA K. BALLARD

It's a new year and I'm going to be a cookin'. You should see the recipes I have received over the last couple of months. One of the most precious ones came from Miss Becca Garrison. Her first cookbook was compiled with favorite recipes from her grandmother and each page featured a picture of Becca holding a tray of the finished product to let you know the recipes were foolproof. The recipes were basic and easy which is a plus this time of the year.

Then, to the surprise to some of the KNH staff, Randy Renshaw made the mistake of stepping into the office announcing he had prepared Christmas dinner for quite a few family members and friends. He highly recommended his recipe for hominy casserole. Here is another Rachel Ray may want to visit as Randy is quite a connoisseur in the kitchen. At any rate, he was good enough to provide several of his favorite recipes with us.

Quite frankly, after weeks of rich food, a steak and baked potato sounds good to me…

Janet Murray and Denise McKain were seen at the movie house on New Year's Eve watching "Marley and Me." They decided to forego the 12:00 bringing in the New Year to go to Canton's Trade Day on New Year's Day. This was the first time Janet had ever been to trade days and from the sound of it, she was planning on returning before the weekend was over…

By the way, the movie is rated PG13, but several adults had younger children in the audience to "show them a good time." Although previews hint of humorous antics the dog will pull throughout the movie, it has a sad ending especially to small children and dog lovers. The sound of sobbing throughout the audience on New Year's Eve was not pleasant…

Jamie Larson and friend Jesse were in town from Paulding, Ohio to visit sisters Valerie Melton, Becky Holbrook, Darlene Perry and Mona Jimerson. The sisters fondly refer to him as "the golden child" as he is the youngest in the family and the only male.

While in town they visited the East Texas Oil Museum and many of the stores in downtown Kilgore. They were impressed with the Christmas lighting especially the derricks. They also took a tour of the antique ships in Gladewater. They were here almost a week soaking in all of the attention of all those sisters before having to return to Ohio…

There is an old pop song that says, "If I had my life to live over…I'd do the same things again." "This might be a nice thought, but for most of us it is not reality. As we look at the past year there are many things we would do differently," said Bro. Johnny Williams, Pastor at Victory Road Baptist Church. Beginning on January 4th, he will begin a series of sermons in their morning worship on "The Signs of the Times." If you are interested in attending or discussing it with him, he may be reached at 903-986-8362 or at 3800 Goforth Road @ Hwy. 135.

The Kilgore Community Crisis Center has received a tremendous amount of contributions for the Thrift Store. "We are still in awe over the generous support of the community throughout the entire holiday season," said Audrey Whitten. The Thrift Store will resume their regular schedule starting Monday, January 5. Those hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The Crisis Center will be celebrating their 25th anniversary this year and plans on activities to cover that has begun.

Please share your new year plans and/or visits with me. I can be reached at 903-984-2593 or at chitchatlinda@aol.com. In the meantime, May His Love and Laughter Fill Your Hearts and Your Homes Throughout the Week.
