Bustin kicks way to Vegas!
Among the best kickers in nation
BUSTIN Football is over for just about everyone now, but Kilgore High School junior Ryan Bustin has a few more kicks left to make. And he'll be doing so in Las Vegas.
Bustin, the kicker for the KHS Bulldogs for three seasons (and his senior season still to come), recently competed in Nike's Chris Sailer Kicking Camp and hit a field goal of 60 yards! Bustin has long had a reputation for making lengthy kicks, dating back to his eighth-grade season.
The Sailer Camp ended with a series of competitions, where Bustin and all the campers (about 60 of them) had to at- tempt field goals beginning at the 35-yard-line, then moved back 5 yards and so on, and kickers who missed were eliminated.
Bustin's 60-yarder was good enough to win the competition, and he brought home the camp's "Last Man Standing" award.
Kickers were evaluated and charted on punting and kickoffs, and winners from each category went head-to-head in a semifinal round. Bustin got to the finals and won the camp championship, earning the trip to Las Vegas on Jan. 17-18. There, at another event sponsored by Nike, he'll be kicking with current NFL, Arena Football and top college kickers looking on.
