KILGOROUND

BILL WOODALL

THE LITTER patrol evidently skipped that whole Samples Road - Old Gladewater Hwy. area. Someone who drives that neighborhood apparently decided to BE 1-800-a dumper.

ON the other hand, if you're looking for a good deal on a mattress or a sofa, that corner has become the place to go look.

WHAT'S the threshold for sending Thank You notes?

DO you send them when you get a bag of peanuts or a box of candy? Or, do you hold them in reserve for gifts of at least the sweater level?

I'M NOT enough of a fashionista to tell you what the fabric was but it looked like I would think oilcloth would look. The skirt was dark green, had a large cargo pocket on each side and a belt made of matching fabric and sporting a large, silver buckle. And it was being worn by a hirsute, 30- ish guy in Tyler.

DID I miss that memo? Do skirts now have a place in a man's wardrobe? Is that more fashionable than I want to be?

SKEETER, one of Kilgore's most prized employers, is not just a bass boat company. In 2008 they began manufacturing a walleye boat.

WE remember being surprised when boat manufacturers began - was it in the 70s?— offering bass boats. When we moved to Oregon, we found boat companies offering drift boats, double-ended boats made just for drifting the rivers and fishing for steelhead. And now there are boats for folks who fish mostly for walleye.

YOU'D think, wouldn't you, that walleye would take bait cast from a bass boat.

LOTS of folks in town for the holidays took advantage of the pleasant weather to stroll through town, reading the memorial plaques under the derricks.

AND in the weeks since Thanksgiving we've watched a dozen or so photographers with cameras and tripods position themselves carefully along Commerce Street and Kilgore Street at dusk, capturing the lights and derricks on film or

memory cards.
