Kilgore's Steve Brown, district governor for Rotary District 5830, was the guest speaker for the Kilgore Rotary Club on Wednesday.

Brown began his term as district governor this week. Sammy D. York began his year as Kilgore Rotary Club president this week, as well, and opened the year with the DG's visit.

Brown, a stalwart Rotarian since leading the Kilgore club to winning the Bill Campbell District Excellence Award while serving as president of the Kilgore club, was emphatic in his remarks to the Kilgore club, saying he wanted to talk to Kilgore first.

Brown emphasized Foundation giving, a strength of the Kilgore club when he was president, and also talked about serving people in our communities, in our state, in our country and in our world.

Brown said he was proud to be a member of the Kilgore club and said this group was one of the hardest working clubs he has ever seen. He also said he knows that, under the leadership of Sammy York, the Kilgore club will continue to excel.

Steve Brown was presented a check to American Cancer Society and his wife, Penny, got a gift as first lady of Rotary district 5830. this was Steve's first club visit as District 5830 Governor.
In a special presentation at the meeting, Tom and Linda Sartor presented their daughter, Heather Sartor Williamson, a member of the Amory, Mississippi club as well as a minister in a church there, with her Paul Harris Fellowship. Williamson has been a member of the club since moving to the community several years ago. Both her parents are Paul Harris Fellows as well.

The Bright Futures Foundation wrote a thank you note to the club thanking them for support, and Megan Schitoskey also wrote a thank you note to Kilgore Rotarians.

Debbie Dane, who works with Charlie Corbin and General Dynamics, was thanked for redesigning the bulletin and volunteering to take on the duties of bulletin editor.

Two new people, Linda Tucker and Tim Capps, were proposed for membership in Rotary.

This Wednesday, Brian Schrader of General Dynamics, will give a program on SATCOM Technologies ALMA Project.

The Kilgore Rotary Club meets each Wednesday at noon in the ballroom of Meadowbrook Country Club. Guests are always welcome.
