Rusk County looks to buy an Emergency Notification System Rusk County and the cities of Henderson, New London, and Overton, will holding "Town Hall" meetings for residents to express their opinion on the purchase of an Emergency Notification System for Rusk County. Government Officials from Rusk County and the Cities of Henderson, New London, Mount Enterprise, and Reklaw met recently to discuss the possibility of joining together to purchasing an Emergency Notification System the would be able to cover each of their jurisdictions. These officials are concerned about being able to warn their citizens about emergencies in a timely manner. There are times during the year when citizens need to be alerted about emergency events that are occurring around them. During the past year Rusk County has experienced a pipeline explosion, a gas well blow out, an oil well fire, several missing person searches and three tornados. Having an Emergency Notification system would have allowed authorities a quicker and more efficient method to notify citizens about the event and to take necessary actions. Town Hall meetings are planned for public comments on the need for such an Emergency Notification. The meetings are scheduled on July 14 at 7 pm in the Rusk County substation located at 704 Peterson Road, Kilgore, July 15 at 7 pm in the Rusk County Courthouse in Commissioner Court Room on bottom floor, and July 17 at 7 pm in McConnico Hall in New London. |
