Pentecost addition could be rezoned

Approximately half of the households in Kilgore's Pentecost Addition - between Stone Road and US 259 - were represented at a neighborhood meeting with city council Monday night.

The property owners and residents gathered at the request of Kilgore City Council and Carol Windham, director of planning and zoning, to discuss rezoning.

The proposed zoning change would designate the neighborhood as a single-family residential district, which would prohibit manufactured homes from being installed on lots. Manufactured homes already in the neighborhood would be allowed to remain, but a resident would have to build a singlefamily home if the manufactured home needed replacing.

A manufactured home is any factory-built home assembled off the home site and moved onto it. A single-family home is any home constructed on the lot.

The idea of rezoning came from the city's master plan study, where it was discovered that the Pentecost Addition is a prime area for revitalization, because of all the new residences being built.

Windham said she was pleased with the meeting turnout as well as the favorable response and positive feedback received.

Harvey McClendon, councilman, said he was pleased to see neighborhood participation and appreciated the residents questions.

Other topics of discussion included clearing of brush on vacant neighborhood lots, residents' desire for additional lighting, street drainage and the need for a water fountain and electrical outlets at the neighborhood park.

The Pentecost Addition is also on the Planning and Zoning Commission agenda for a public hearing on Wednesday, July 16. A second public hearing is scheduled at the second city council meeting of this month, Tuesday, July 22.
