KILGOROUND

SURELY YOU'VE BEEN waiting for an opportunity to meet Greg Brown, the new principal at Kilgore High School. Here's your chance.

A MEET-the-principal soirée has been scheduled for tomorrow (Wednesday) at noon in the high school cafeteria. AND, as if meeting the new principal's not enough to get you there, the school district is providing free finger food.

JODY Clements, KISD superintendent, did offer you another chance to meet the principal: Mr. Brown will be in his office Monday-through Thursday from 7:30 until 4:30.

LESTER Murray, the Kilgore News Herald's gourmand, tells us the salmonella related tomato crunch must be easing: the popular vegetable/fruit is back on the burgers at McDonald's as of Monday.

IF you're in the mood for tomatoes -- or squash or watermelons or local jellies -- don't forget the farmer's market downtown Saturday morning. The vendors open up at 8 a.m. and the tomatoes go quickly; sleeping in will likely cost you a shot at the best veggies.

THE market is hosted by Kilgore's Main Street committee and manager Fallon Burns.

YEP, we had so much fun at the Pump Jacks game we're going back this evening. Baseball, hot dogs and sweat just make for a good evening.
