YEEHAW. TxDOT on Monday is going to work on Hwy 135 north. Gosh it's hard to imagine Hwy 135 in good condition.
THEY tell us that first rattle out of the box, crews will begin "milling and inlay."
YOU'RE right; traffic will be difficult. But, gosh it's hard to imagine Hwy 135 in good condition.

WE'VE always enjoyed baseball at the ball park. For reasons that likely involve ottoman, sofa and air conditioning, baseball on television provides a delightfully narcotic effect. (Aside: are the ottoman -- as in furniture -- and the Ottoman Empire related in some fashion? Did Prussians invent the ottoman?)
PUTTING aside the narcotic effects of televised baseball, we were delighted Thursday night to find ourselves between Manny
Almanza, local radio personality and sports fan, and Gilbert Lopez, the owner of Kilgore Ford and likewise a sports fan.
THE event was the home opener for the East Texas Pump Jacks.
THE crowd was relaxed, loud, involved, knowledgeable - and solidly behind local ball infielder/third baseman Pat McCrory. The hot dogs were tasty and the mascots were entertaining. And the locals won in 11 innings.
AS if that weren't enough, Gilbert even kept his internet-by-phone connection going so we could keep up the Lakers and the Celtics.

IT'S that time of the month again.
KILGORE'S emergency siren will be tested again at noon Wednesday, June 18, unless -- it goes without saying -- the weather's threatening and it appears the emergency siren will need to be used for a real emergency.

BY the time you get around to reading this, we'll be all polished up and at the party for the Crisis Center. We hope to see you there, as well.

MART Lapin, now of Maine, never forgets a Kilgoround. Dredging up comments from a months-old column, Mart tells us that pickled fiddlehead ferns are available at mainegoodies.com.

LOCALS who've seen the streetscaping in downtown Gladewater are downright enthusiastic now about the streetscaping proposed for downtown Kilgore.
WORK on the new sidewalks, street lights and such will begin early next year.
